AN IMAGINARY MUSEUM? A MIGRANT COLLECTION.

The pieces that compose the museums’ collections have their own particular life. In the case of the objects comprising the collection of the Museum of the History of Immigration in Catalonia (MhiC), in addition to life, they have memory, they keep the memories associated with the migratory gesture. And we wanted to wake up these objects closed to their display cabinets and boxes with a restless sleep, and give them a voice to explain their history.

MhiC’s collection is represented by The Memory of Silenced Objects (official catalogue), which aspires to be a small catalogue with a great meaning. This concept was inspired by André Malraux and his idea of inviting the creation of a subjective museum where each visitor can make his collection with works from various periods, techniques and aesthetic elements in no other order than the visitor’s own experience.
